Desert Sun Resort – Quick Tip

If you’re ready for some nude fun and activity, but don’t want to give up any luxuries, you’ll be very happy at Desert Sun Resort.   It’s the largest luxury nudist resort in California and offers something for everyone – and you can enjoy it all clothes free.  

There are three pools, two Jacuzzis, tennis court, spa, night club, gift shop, restaurant and lots of well-manicured grounds.   Accommodations range from vintage (but well-upgraded) Palm Springs courtyard rooms, to luxury modern condos.    They welcome guests for a day, a weekend or as long as you want to stay.  In fact, it’s so nice, many visitors end up buying one of the condo’s to have their own place at Desert Sun Resort.

When to Go

Palm Springs has a great climate year round, with sun almost every day.  Winter days range from the high 60’s to low 80’s.  It rarely rains, and even on cooler days the sun is warm and the Jacuzzis are toasty.  Spring and Fall range from the high 70’s to mid 90’s with spectacular evenings.  Summers are often over 100 in the day and sensually balmy evenings.   Go whenever you have the chance.  If it’s too hot grab a cold drink and get into the pool.  If it’s cool, soak in a Jacuzzi, then mingle by the outdoor firepit.  Life is good.

The Pools

All three pools are heated in the winter, and refreshingly cool in the summer.  They have lots of comfortable lounge chairs and Desert Sun provides plenty of fluffy towels when you check-in.   There are lots of mature trees, and plenty of sun decks so you can choose how much, or how little sun you want.   There are also numerous lawns and shady areas if you want to chill out away from the pools.

The quiet pool is secluded in an near the spa where soft music filters through the flowers, misters keep the deck cool even in summer, and people float happily for hours on loungers in the water.   Mostly older couples.

A large lawn, shaded Jacuzzi and mature olive trees separate the quiet pool from the main resort pool where weekends see non-stop water volleyball games, people gather to socialize and relax with a cold drink, and an active blend of baby boomer tunes keep things lively.   This is where the Things To Do Nude team hangs out – but then we’re always a little hyperactive.   Couples, singles and fun lovers of all ages.

A few minutes walk away through the condo area is the salt-water filtered pool with spectacular views of Mt. San Jacinto, and a unique soothing experience from the gentle waters. There is also a large Jacuzzi, outdoor shower and bbq in this area.  This pool is generally quieter except when the resort is full.

Sports & Events

There’s a well maintained tennis court just above the main pool.  Racquets and balls are available for free use.   At times, naked volleyball groups plan events at the resort and the tennis court becomes a competition volleyball tournament court.

There is a well equipped fitness center in the courtyard room section with a variety of weight machines, treadmills and exercise equipment.

As previously mentioned, the main pool is the site of spirited naked water volleyball games on most weekends.   It must be disclosed that the Things To Do Nude team took first place in the naked water volleyball tournament at a recent AANR gathering, but we encourage you to play anyway and promise we’ll be easy on you.   Maybe.

There’s also a full event calendar.  Naked Yoga on the lawn, outdoor movie night with 5.1 surround sound under the desert stars (with popcorn of course), dances, parties, contests.  Check the website for full details.

Dining & Entertainment

The Oasis Café at Desert Sun overlooks the main pool and Olive groves.  They have a full bar, and serve a great variety of sandwiches, salads and dinner entrees with indoor and outdoor seating available.  And “naturally” no clothes are required at any time.   They even provide complimentary coffee and pastries each morning.

Happy hour is every day from 4 – 6pm when they’ll bring a drink right to you poolside lounge chair, and on Fridays there is a Meet & Greet from 4:30 – 6 to meet other guests and get into the Desert Sun spirit for the upcoming weekend.

On Friday and Saturday evenings, the Bare Buns Night Club comes to life.  A full bar, cocktail tables, dance floor and great music invite guests to come relax, mingle, sing, dance and have some fun.  You’ll be pleased to know that after all our yelling at water volleyball, the Things To Do Nude team doesn’t do karaoke.  There are some things nobody should have to endure.

Of course Palm Springs offers an incredible selection of restaurants, so if you can slip into your clothes for a few hours, there are some great dining opportunities available to you.  Or pick up your favorite meat and/or vegetables and take advantage of the BBQ grills Desert Sun provides.   If you’ve never bbq’d naked on a warm evening – you’re in for a treat.

Accommodations

There is literally something for everyone at Desert Sun Resort. 

The Courtyard rooms are a chance to rediscover the Golden Age of Palm Springs’ with rooms surrounding an intimate Spanish-style courtyard, just steps from the quiet pool and spa.

The Chaparral Rooms face the main pool and have recently been remodeled with a soothing color palette and luxury amenities including 32” flat screen TV’s.

The villas and condos are luxury accommodations with full kitchens, fireplaces, whirpool tubs,  majestic views of the mountains and much more. 

Spa

In a quiet corner of the resort is the spa.  They offer a full program of massages and therapy to erase the stress of the clothed world outside the gates of Desert Sun.  You can even have a massage outside as warm desert breezes mix with the masseuse’s skilled hands to create some magic for you.

Your Hosts

General Manager Michael Williams spent years working on cruise ships travelling the world.  Today he manages Desert Sun making sure every guest gets the most from their visit.  You’ll see the enthusiasm for serving guests in every member of the staff, who are there to make sure you have a great time.

Summary

Desert Sun offers a wealth of recreation, accommodation and entertainment.  It’s bigger, more active and less intimate than some of the other Palm Springs nude resorts, but the grounds are beautiful, the accommodations comfortable (bordering on decadent) and there’s enough to do to keep almost everyone entertained. 

It’s on the north end of Palm Springs (making it the shortest commute to LA from anywhere in the desert) and just minutes by car (or a very pleasant walk or bike ride) to downtown Palm Springs.  The crowd is a variety of couples, singles and even some families.   But the grounds are so large it’s easy to find just the right crowd and activity level you’re seeking.
