Hippie Hollow – Quick Tip

Deep in the heart of Texas may be one of the coolest nude recreation places without an ocean. Hippie Hollow is a legal nude recreation area just outside Austin. It’s big, clean with a long shoreline, big boulders for sunbathing, trees for shade, trails for walking and a lake for swimming, rafting, or just floating around with a cold drink.  And you’ve got to admit when you heard it’s called Hippie Hollow – it did have an instantly good vibe didn’t it?

We visited on a weekday in July.  There wasn’t a big crowd, but there was a good assortment of men and women, young and old. A few couples, a few singles, two sisters re-connecting, some roommates chilling out for a day and our team from Things To Do Nude. A good crowd of straight and gay all with one thing in mind – kicking back and enjoying some natural fun.

It’s a short drive from central Austin, and as an official nudist recreation area, very well organized and maintained.   You pay $8 to park in a huge paved lot.  You have to stay clothed in the parking lot, but once you take a few steps down to the lakefront trails, you can take off the clothes and start the fun.   There are paved trails along the shoreline and we saw a number of naked walkers getting their exercise au naturel.   Every hundred yards or so, there are steps down to the waterline.   There are also restrooms and trash cans along the trail.

The upper shore is covered with trees, closer to the water it’s rocks and big boulders.  When we visited the lake level was very low so there were more rocks than normal, but we found a great place to chill out, get naked and relax.   With the warm Texas climate the water in July was nice and warm – perfect for swimming and lounging.

On weekends there are much larger crowds, and several times per year there are big party events where hundreds of boats and party minded people anchor off shore and have some fun.

Austin is reputably the best city in Texas for those who love freedom of expression, good times and a relaxed lifestyle.  Which makes Hippie Hollow fit perfectly into the community.   Clean, nicely maintained, but still welcoming to carefree nude recreation.  We look forward to our next trip.
